President's Message

Welcome to the 2016 West Linn Youth Football Season.

Believe it or not we are only a few short months away from the start of the season. First off, I would like to thank all our parents, community partners, coaches and the WLYF board for making the 2015 season a huge success. I would also like to thank Chris Miller and his staff for their help in running our camp and for the tremendous example they have set for our program.

2015 was a memorable year for our program. We had 6 of our 7 playoff eligible teams qualify for the playoffs ending with 4 Division Championships. We also had 4 coaches win the Wellnitz Award, a coaching award given out by the TVYFL. At all levels, our program showed the character and good sportsmanship you come to expect from a West Linn team. As we head into the 2016 season, we look to build on the success we experienced in 2015 and continue to provide the youth of our community a fun and safe environment to play the game of football.

WLYF will continue to focus on player safety for the 2016 season. Through your fundraising efforts, we have replenished our helmet inventory with helmets that are rated with 5 Stars from the 2016 Virginia Tech Helmet Study. In addition, we will be implementing baseline testing at the older age groups as well as requiring each team to have a designated Safety Coach present during practice and games. Finally, the 2016 coaching staff will be taking additional training to help provide a safe experience for the kids in our program. Through USA Football, each coach will be trained on topics that cover proper equipment fitting, concussion recognition and awareness, heat and hydration as well as proper tackling techniques and fundamentals. Furthermore, each coaching staff will be First Aid and CPR certified. These additional steps are indicative or our program's commitment to ensuring we stay up to date on the safest way to provide a great experience for the young athletes in our program.

We are currently working on updating our website. Our goal is to use the website as a tool to keep you up to date on important dates, camps, and information you will need for the upcoming season. I hope you enjoy the rest of spring and look forward to seeing everyone in August!
